The Haindaveeyam Foundation, Legal team member by Sri Mahadevan Iyer, has raised concerns over the Guruvayur Devaswom Board and filed a case in the Honorable Kerala High Court against the controversial decision to award the prestigious Poonthanam Njanappana Award to noted poet Prabha Varma, who also serves as Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayanβs media secretary. The Honorable Kerala High Court has stayed this decision, citing questions about fairness and transparency. Haindaveeyamβs challenge highlights the need to ensure that Temple-endowed awards uphold their sanctity and integrity, free from political influence, reflecting the true essence of Sanathana Dharma and the cultural values they represent.

Communist Party of India (CPI) legislator P Balachandran found himself in hot water after making derogatory comments about Lord Rama on his Facebook account. The Thrissur constituency MLAβs remarks, , posted on January 25, In his Facebook post, Balachandran alleged that Bhagwan Ram suffered from corns in his feet, implying that it hindered his ability to run fast during the episode of Mareeja disguised as a golden deer. The legislator went further, making controversial statements about Bhagwn Ram, Mata Sita, and Lakshman, suggesting they were consuming Porotha and meat curry. He also referenced a toddy shop, insinuating that Lord Rama and Lakshmana visited it to enjoy alcoholic drinks. Facing swift backlash from various quarters, Balachandran later deleted the controversial post. Sri. M Nandakumar, General Convener of the Kerala Chapter of Haindaveeyam Foundation, filed a complaint at Kamalasserry Police Station, Kochi, and subsequently filed a case in the Kalamassery magistrate court
The cartoon is drawn by Anoop Radhakrishnan, secretary of Kerala Lalithakala Academy. It is titled βCOVID-19 Global Medical Summitβ, depicting a cow shrouded in a saffron shawl representing India flanked by doctors in England, China, and the United States in the global medical summit and moved the petition. Ms. Deepthy K Vasudevan for Haindaveeyam Foundation, arraigning the Union Government, Kerala Government, the state Lalithakala Akademi, and cartoonist Anoop Radhakrishnan as respondents. The Foundation has claimed that the cartoon disparages India and distorts reality. It was authored with a deliberate intention to create public disorder. It has been submitted that they approached the respondents to review the award, however, nothing transpired therefrom. Thus, the present petition has prayed that the award be withdrawn. The plea also accused the criteria adopted by the Respondents in declaring the award to the said cartoon, to be illegal, unreasonable, and without any rationale.
